6C
Good morning everyone, I am Fish from 6C.
today, I want to talk about a well-known person – Winston Churchill.
Winston Churchill was the British prime
minister during the Second World War. He used his determination to led
Britain to win over Germany. His famous speech “We shall fight on the
beaches. We shall fight on the landing ground. We shall fight in the field
and in the street. We shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender.
And as a F.6 students, I believe Winston Churchill
can be a good role model for all the F.6 students because DSE is coming soon.
All of the F.6 students face heavy academic pressure now. We may give up
easily, but we can learn from Winston Churchill to use our determination to
overcome it. Despite the pressure and stress from DSE, we will never
surrender!
In the end, I hope every F.6 students can
do our best to get good grade in DSE. That’s the end of my sharing, thank
you.

Last
week, I had a man-date marathon with two of my friends. We watched green book
in Shatin Movie Town. We watched Green Book because we wanted a movie with
depth. Let me introduce the plot first. The film is inspired by the story of
African-American pianist Dr Shirley and Italian-American driver Tony Lip. Dr
Shirley hired Tony for his eight-week concert tour through the peep South which
is racism at that time. Dr Shirley’s recorded label gave tony a copy of the
Green Book, a guide for black traveler to find motels, restaurants that would
served black that what the name of the film came from.

Edison:
|
In
this film, the African-American pianist, Dr Shirley had a difficult situation.
Despite its superb piano skill, the strong racism in the United States at the
time. He couldn’t change the characteristic of his dark skin and he was
treated differently in real life. It was impossible for him to think that his
success could be able to keep peace with the whites.
|
|
Collison:
|
In
the movie, I like Dr Shirley’s choice of words. He was highly educated. For example,
he wanted to tell his friends he didn’t understand him. Instead of saying ‘you
don’t understand me’, he said ‘you have a very narrow assessment of me Tony’,
such language pattern could not be learned in the textbook. And, there are
many good quotes in this movie. Dr Shirley said ‘you never win with violence.
You only win when you maintain your dignity. Watching movie is the best way
to learn English.

Happy
new year James! Welcome to the year of the pig!
|
|
James
|
What?
Did you just call me a pig?!
|
|
Jason
|
No
No, I said it’s the “year of the pig” 2019 is the Chinese year of the Pig
|
|
James
|
Oh
yes, I know what you mean now. Chinese New Year has a lot of traditions and
unique aspects that we can all experience
|
|
Jason
|
That’s
right! For instance, family members will exchange red pockets that are full
of money.
|
|
James
|
Yes.
That’s my favorite part of Chinese New Year, its better than winning the mark
6!
|
|
Jason
|
That’s
true! I was very grateful for all the red pockets I received. What else did
you do during the new year?
|
|
James
|
Well,
I spent a lot of time with my family and relatives. Its important to spend
Chinese year with your family as it’s an important tradition.
|
|
Jason
|
That’s
correct. Many families will travel back to their country of origin, which is
the country their ancestors came from.
|
|
James
|
Yes,
many families travel back to mainland china during the holiday to see their
grandparents, aunties and uncles. We also eat special traditional food during
this holiday. Can you think of any examples?
|
|
Jason
|
Hmm,
well, there are lots of examples. But, my favorite is a dessert called gok
jai which is a delicious cake filled with coconuts and peanuts
|
|
James
|
That
sounds delicious Jason. So happy new year to everyone in BWWTC. We hope you
have a year of good fortune and success starting with todays English speaking
day.

English Speaking Day 14th January 2019
Students: 5BC
Good morning everyone. Last
Friday, I went to the AIA the Great European Carnival along with some
schoolmates. I appreciated the school for the opportunity to take part in such a
fun event. we had a really fun evening, and I got to meet people from all walks
of life. And that got me thinking: our life as secondary school students can be
rather out off from the outside world. Let me explain.
As students, we are
either bust with school or just hang out with friends. Rarely do we pay much
attention to what really goes on in society. Honestly, I didn’t expect much
from an event that lasted only a few hours, but it taught me that ‘school life’
should not be limited within school campus or covers of textbooks. We can learn
through participating in various extra-curricular activities. For example, the
F.1 study trip to Shenzhen during the winter break. It was fun and memorable,
and they learned a lot about conservation of marine animals.
So my message to you:
Don’t hesitate to take part in activities that will expand your horizons,
because they will enrich your school life and you, Thank you!
English Speaking Day 7th January 2019
Students: 5A
ALL: Good
morning Principal, teachers and fellow students.
Suki: We
are students from Form 5A. I am Suki.
Auston: I
am Auston.
Suki: We
are now in the new year 2019. How do
you feel?
Auston: I feel
very excited as a new year means a new start.
Suki: Do you have any wish for this new year?
Auston: Of
course. My wish is to improve my
English. Do you have any suggestions?
Suki: Sure.
In order to improve your English, you need to form a habit of
reading English storybooks. It helps you learn more vocabulary
and sentence structures.
Besides, you can listen to English news on TV or watch
English movies to improve your listening ability.
Auston: I
see. How about your new year wish?
Suki: Hmmm.
I just hope that the world can be in peace. Wars kill many people. I don’t want to see that.
Auston: I
agree. By the way, how did you
celebrate the new year?
Suki : I went
to Tsim Sha Tsui to join the count down and watch the fireworks with my
friends.
Auston: Ha
Ha. Was it great?
Suki: Of
course. It was really fantastic. I want to watch it again next year.
Auston:
Can I join you then?
Suki: Sure.
Let’s keep in touch. Bye-bye.
Auston: Bye-bye.

English Speaking Day 3rd December 2018

Good
morning everyone, today I am going to talk about pop culture. The term
pop-culture holds different meanings depending on who’s defining it, but it is
generally recognised as the people’s culture that the majority of a society
shares at a point in time.
Example of
pop-culture are like movies, book, tv shows, music etc. One of my favourite pop
cultures is the slang pop-culture. Slang is a type of language consist of words
and phrase that are regarded as very informal and usually being used by
teenagers on the internet. Slangs words are everywhere in our life.
There are
two types of slang. The first one is the abbreviation, such as “RIP”, which
means rest in peace, usually use when something unfortunate happens to someone.
“LOL”, which means laugh out loud, being used when something funny happens and
someone wants to make fun of it. “OMG” as in oh my god, say when some
unpredicted things happen or something that surprised you. The short form slang
is so famous among teenagers, especially when they are messaging on the phone
since it is very convenient.
Another is
the words and phrases that are informed and use in daily life. Examples like
that can be as simple as the phrase “piece of cake”, which means when someone
is facing a problem but tackles it easily, we call it a piece of cake. And a
similar phrase that foreigners often use, “easy peasy lemon squeeze” which
shares the same meaning with “piece of cake”. Other examples like “what’s up”,
“how’s it going” is also the examples of slang.
I love
slang so much since I think this is a part of the English culture, and those
are some words and phrase that nearly the whole society created together. While
I use slang, it feels like I am talking like a typical local English.
I
definitely recommend everyone to go check out slang, as it is an interesting
way for us to learn and discover the fun of English.

English Speaking Day 19th November 2018
Student: 6C Scarlett Chau Ka Yung
Good morning everyone, I am Scarlett from
6C. I am so glad I can have an opportunity to speak in front of you. Today,
what I am going to share with you is Wonder Woman, one of the superheros in DC
comics.
The name of Wonder Woman is Diana. She lives
in the Paradise Island, where a majority of warrior women live. Diana is eager
to be an outstanding warrior woman. In order to achieve her dream, she works
very hard. One day, a man named Steve enters the Paradise Island. He tells
Diana cruel facts of the wars in the real world. After realizing a majority of
people, especially women and children, are suffering the pain from the wars,
Diana is very suffocated and she decides to save the world with the man. She goes
to the real world with the man. She goes to the real world and notices how wars
hurt people. She is such a very brave woman. She saves the people who are in
the wars using her extraordinary power. If you are in favor of her and you are
eager to know more about her, you can watch the movie, which is about Wonder
Woman, on the internet.
There is a small Wonder Woman figure on my
left hand. When I was unhappy, I could not help to eat a lot of foods, for
example, candies, chocolate. One day, I bought a Kinder Joy. Fortunately, I got
this funny toy from it. I was very delighted and realized perhaps it is my fate.
I must be as brave as Wonder Woman and fight for my dream and life. I am going
to give this toy to one of the outstanding mathematics teachers in future. Yes!
It is me, Scarlett!
This is what I want to share with you. Thank
you.
