Good
morning everyone, today I am going to talk about pop culture. The term
pop-culture holds different meanings depending on who’s defining it, but it is
generally recognised as the people’s culture that the majority of a society
shares at a point in time.
Example of
pop-culture are like movies, book, tv shows, music etc. One of my favourite pop
cultures is the slang pop-culture. Slang is a type of language consist of words
and phrase that are regarded as very informal and usually being used by
teenagers on the internet. Slangs words are everywhere in our life.
There are
two types of slang. The first one is the abbreviation, such as “RIP”, which
means rest in peace, usually use when something unfortunate happens to someone.
“LOL”, which means laugh out loud, being used when something funny happens and
someone wants to make fun of it. “OMG” as in oh my god, say when some
unpredicted things happen or something that surprised you. The short form slang
is so famous among teenagers, especially when they are messaging on the phone
since it is very convenient.
Another is
the words and phrases that are informed and use in daily life. Examples like
that can be as simple as the phrase “piece of cake”, which means when someone
is facing a problem but tackles it easily, we call it a piece of cake. And a
similar phrase that foreigners often use, “easy peasy lemon squeeze” which
shares the same meaning with “piece of cake”. Other examples like “what’s up”,
“how’s it going” is also the examples of slang.
I love
slang so much since I think this is a part of the English culture, and those
are some words and phrase that nearly the whole society created together. While
I use slang, it feels like I am talking like a typical local English.
I
definitely recommend everyone to go check out slang, as it is an interesting
way for us to learn and discover the fun of English.
